Time: 9 AM - 11 AM

Have you always wanted to try the pottery wheel but weren't sure where to begin?

Our Introduction to the Pottery Wheel is designed as a taste of the wheel—a relaxed, two-hour experience that introduces you to the fundamentals of wheel throwing without the commitment of a multi-week course.

This is not an in-depth instructional class, but rather an introduction and "taste tester" experience that allows you to become comfortable with the wheel and discover whether you'd like to continue your pottery journey in our comprehensive Foundations on the Pottery Wheel course.

During class, you'll receive three balls of clay to practice the essential techniques of wheel throwing. Pottery takes time and repetition to master, so this class is designed to encourage exploration rather than perfection. Most students will complete one to two finished pieces, which will be professionally glazed in one of Clay Rose Pottery's signature studio glazes, fired, and ready for pickup in approximately 3–4 weeks.

Who Can Attend

  • Ages 10 years and up.

  • Younger children may participate only with instructor approval if they demonstrate the maturity, focus, and coordination needed to safely use a pottery wheel.

  • For most younger artists, we recommend our Parent & Child  Workshop, specially designed for children and families to create together.

What's Included

  • Three balls of clay

  • Opportunity to create 1–2 finished ceramic pieces

  • Use of pottery wheel and studio tools

  • Personalized instruction in a class of six students

  • Bisque and glaze firing

  • Studio-selected glaze

  • Apron during class

Continue Your Journey If you fall in love with the wheel, our 4-Week Foundations on the Pottery Wheel course is the perfect next step, where you'll learn trimming, glazing, handles, mugs, bowls, cylinders, and the techniques needed to confidently create functional pottery from start to finish. At Clay Rose Pottery, we believe creativity grows one piece at a time. This introductory experience is simply the first step in discovering whether the pottery wheel is a craft you'll fall in love with.

In each workshop, you'll learn to design around the rose, using it as the heart of your arrangement while exploring the beauty of seasonal flowers that complement its form.

Our signature design style favors monochromatic arrangements

celebrating the richness of a single color through texture, movement, and subtle variations in tone. If another palette or style speaks to you, you're encouraged to make your arrangement uniquely your own with guidance every step of the way.

The Mini Femme Vase
 Signature Sculpture Workshop

Workshop Details

Instructor: Shandi
When: 1st & 3rd Saturday of Every Month
Time: 3 PM - 6 PM

Class Size: 6
Investment: $125 per person

Learn Directly from the Original Artist

The Mini Femme Vase is more than a pottery class—it is an invitation into my personal artistic practice.

As a ceramic sculptor, the Femme Vase has become my signature work. It is the piece that collectors, students, and visitors most often associate with my work, representing years of experimentation, refinement, and a deep fascination with the feminine form. Every curve, proportion, and silhouette has been thoughtfully developed through years in the studio until it became a sculpture that reflects my artistic voice.

In this workshop, I open that creative process to you. Rather than simply teaching a project, I share the same foundational techniques, sculptural philosophy, and design approach I use to create my own signature pieces. You'll learn directly from the original creator, gaining insight into how I think about proportion, movement, balance, and elegance while sculpting clay.

A Taste of the Signature Femme Vase Course

The Mini Femme Vase is an introduction to my Signature Femme Vase Course, a four-week immersive program where students create a larger sculptural vessel while exploring advanced construction, refinement, and artistic expression. This workshop offers a meaningful first experience with my signature style and serves as the perfect gateway into the full course.

More Than a Vase

Each Mini Femme Vase is sculpted entirely by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are alike. Students leave with more than a finished ceramic piece—they leave with an understanding of the artistic process behind one of my most recognizable works and a deeper appreciation for sculptural ceramics.

A Note from Shandi

“The Femme Vase is the piece that defines me most as an artist. It carries years of study, experimentation, and a genuine love for sculptural ceramics. Teaching this workshop is deeply personal because I'm inviting you into the creative process behind the work that has become my artistic signature. My hope is that you leave not only with a sculpture you're proud of, but with a new way of seeing clay, the feminine form, and your own creative voice.”
