The Signature Femme Vase Course
Sculpt The Female Form

Workshop Details

Led by: Shandi
Duration: Tuesdays & Fridays / 4 week course / 8 sessions
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Class Size: 6
Investment: $525 per person

Course Description

Some pieces define an artist. The Femme Vase is mine. The Femme Vase has become my signature work as a ceramic artist—a sculptural vessel that reflects years of experimentation, refinement, and a deep appreciation for the feminine form. In this immersive course, you'll learn directly from the original artist behind the Signature Femme Vase while exploring the same techniques, philosophy, and artistic decisions that shape my own work.

Over eight studio sessions you'll build a full-sized sculptural Femme Vase from the ground up, learning coil construction, proportion, movement, balance, and refinement. Rather than simply recreating a project, you'll gain insight into my artistic process and develop your own creative voice through sculpture.

What You'll Learn

  • Large-scale coil building

  • Sculpting feminine proportions

  • Structural construction techniques

  • Surface refinement and finishing

  • Artistic composition and balance

  • Preparing work for firing

  • The artistic philosophy behind the Signature Femme Vase

The Signature Finish

After your Femme Vase has been bisque fired, you'll complete your sculpture using one of the two signature finishes that define my work.

Signature Creamy White Matte — a soft, velvety finish that emphasizes every sculpted curve and handcrafted detail.

Signature Glossy Nude — a warm, luminous finish that beautifully enhances the feminine form with subtle elegance.

These curated glazes are exclusive to this course and reflect the aesthetic that has become synonymous with my artistic practice.

A Signature Finishing Touch

During our final class together, students will hand-sculpt and attach Clay Rose Pottery's signature flower—the rose. I'll teach you how to sculpt the rose petal by petal before thoughtfully attaching it to your completed Femme Vase. The rose is the final signature element that transforms your sculpture into a true Signature Femme Vase.

A Note from Shandi

“The Femme Vase is the piece that defines me most as an artist. Teaching this course is deeply personal because I'm sharing the creative process behind the work that has become my signature. My hope is that you leave with not only a sculpture you cherish, but a deeper understanding of sculptural ceramics and the confidence to continue creating.”

Transform a simple mug into a one-of-a-kind work of functional art.

Some mugs simply hold coffee. Others tell a story. In this two-day intermediate workshop, you'll combine wheel throwing or slab making with sculptural hand-building to create two expressive mugs entirely your own. You'll sketch, sculpt, and transform functional pottery into collectible ceramic artwork while enjoying a relaxed studio atmosphere with complimentary tea and freshly brewed coffee during both sessions.

Day One – Throw & Design
Third Saturday | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Throw two mugs on the pottery wheel before sketching and planning your sculptural designs as the clay reaches the perfect leather-hard stage.

Day Two – Sculpt & Finish
Fourth Sunday | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Trim your mugs, add sculptural details, refine surfaces, and optionally underglaze your work. If you prefer a natural finish, the studio will complete your mugs with a beautiful clear glaze.

What's Included

  • Five hours of instruction over two workshop days.

  • Clay for two sculptural mugs.

  • Studio tools and materials.

  • Sculptural instruction and design sketching.

  • Optional underglazes.

  • Clear glaze if preferred.

  • Bisque and glaze firings.

  • Complimentary tea and freshly brewed coffee.

  • Finished mugs ready for pickup in approximately 2–4 weeks.

Skill Level

Intermediate. Prior wheel-throwing experience is required. Students should be comfortable throwing a basic mug independently. This workshop is not suitable for first-time wheel throwers.

Please Note

Most students complete their work during Sunday's session. If you need additional time, you'll be invited back during a scheduled studio work session to finish your piece before firing.
